summer is a kiln and I am baking, baby!

Sav Altair Hamid

sweat glazed skin is learning to bask in the textures
sunscreen entangled in no-longer-pube-stache
the burn of heat against acne-ridden shoulders
summer is a kiln and I am all fired up!
I walk out into the sun’s embrace, all elbows and knees
this body is moving up, up, up to her face
photosynthesised flesh buds, swells,
grows to house what is inside in roomy abundance
we are free range, cage-free, baby!
summer is a kiln and in its heat I am cleansed
the past is sloughed away in the sheen of sweat
skin rebirthed greets the dawn
